| Here comes success: Iowa-bred designer hits it big
If you go by appearance, he could be playing on the Iowa State football team. He's tall, broad-shouldered and boyish looking. And the first thing Matthew Christopher tells you is, "I grew up on a pig farm in Iowa." He says it with a sly grin, anticipating the reporter's piqued interest. Continuing, he says his father, now a former Iowa pig farmer, set him up in business out of his New York apartment and serves as the chief financial officer of Matthew Christopher, the bridal wear company. Christopher told his story on a recent visit to Kansas City where he participated in the Star-sponsored Bridal Spectacular event at the Overland Park Convention Center. Christopher is a rising star in a crowded but thriving bridal industry.
MY KINDA TOWN | East London Lin Mark – Be proud and passionate
LIN Mark started Evergreen Indoor Gardens in 2000. They supply indoor plants to businesses and maintain them on a weekly basis. In 2005 Lin purchased the sole distributorship of Silksense, which are silk flowers set in clear gel in glass vases. These various arrangements are rented and rotated on a monthly basis, so every month you can have a different arrangement. If you could give up your current job and become a full-time activist, what cause would you fight for? Definitely very close to my heart is the abuse of women and children, which I can strongly relate to. What music do you listen to? I enjoy playing one of my worship CDs in the morning before the staff arrive for work, to sort of get the day started the right way, otherwise I enjoy all kinds of music not too fussy.
